Mary-Ellen Kelly is a constant observer of people and things. To you and me, she is a “people watcher”. But to her, it is so much more than that. She takes pleasure in the everyday things all around her. Capturing her findings with her iPhone, her photography focuses on the simplicity and beauty of Memphis’s most passed over subjects. Her first book, My Memphis View, was self-published April 2016 and is a hardcover photo book. Not only did she take all of the photographs, but she also published the book herself – impressive. Presumably, she designed the cover and everything herself before finding a company who offer book printing services. Her first book featured minimalistic shots of Memphis, with more than 400 copies sold. It was featured last November in the Memphis Magazine gift guide. Her new book, My Memphis View II, will be a continuation of the first with more captivating shots of Memphis through her lens. This show will be unlike any other. Mary-Ellen will be signing and selling copies of her new book, along with 14×14 canvas prints of selected pages.
Kelly received an Associate of Applied Science in graphic arts technology at Southwest Tennessee Community College and a Bachelor of Science in economics-finance from Bentley College. Her work has been featured in exhibits and festivals across the country. Mary-Ellen received the Merit Award for Mixed Media at River Arts Festival in 2016 and most recently had one of her pieces selected for the set of CBS’s CSI: New Orleans this year.
