Eclectic Eye Presents Hernando in Nocturne by Max Malcolms

For most of Max Malcolms’ life, Hernando, Mississippi has been a home away from home. He always finds grace and splendor in its simplicity.

For all of his life, Max has had an affinity for the night. Often while staying in Hernando, he would roam the nocturnal world, steeping himself in blissful and comfortable surroundings that somehow held something new and mysterious in the dark.

In Hernando in Nocturne, Max awakes from his sleep for a short time to explore the night and capture scenes that correlate to his senses of blissful solitude and graceful emptiness. He finds these senses to be among the ones in which we further grasp the world and ourselves. In the night, there are new adventures and risks for us to indulge in. In the night, we can embrace both eeriness and beauty. In the night, would you prefer to stay in familiarity or edge closer to excitement?

Max Malcolms is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Since 2014, he has continued working on In Nocturne, for which he has held several exhibitions, and has works in private collections across the country. In 2016, he graduated from Memphis College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography. Max currently lives and works in the Bluff City and the majority of his work can be found on his blog.

Eclectic Eye has loved having his work adorn our walls. Because COVID-19 kept us from having an opening art reception, we will host an art show to mark the end of the In Nocturne exhibit in our eyewear studio. Join us on Friday, July 24 from 5:30-7:30 to view his exhibit and speak with the artist.

We will allow groups of ten at a time inside and masks will be required. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances, no refreshments will be served inside as we strive to keep all our staff and customers safe and healthy. You will be able to enjoy some drinks outside where socially distanced mingling can occur.
