Francis Klein started in the optical world when he opened his own shop in the 1970s in Paris. Wanting to offer something unique, he quickly began designing and creating his own frames with the help of his wife Michelle. The duo longed to offer an equally technical and artistic product, which led them to use the best materials for overall sturdy construction and high-end details to create a unique look. Francis Klein eyewear is all made to order. When we purchase frames to showcase at Eclectic Eye we typically wait about 2 months for the order to arrive. These one of a kind pieces are always worth the wait and never cease to excite the eyewear obsessed staff.
The Francis Klein team uses several techniques and materials to create each individual piece. They use a burning and scratching technique to give the acetate texture. On some pieces, they add scallops and facets to the material to create depth and interest. The Swarovski crystals are the most popular adornment, and possibly the most eye catching. They use only the best crystals in varied shapes and colors to compliment the acetate and shape. You’ll also see metal elements in gold and silver and custom engraving to accentuate the crystals and overall design. One of the most interesting and original treatments from Francis Klein is their use of fabric and textile materials. Printed fabrics, lace and feathers are pressed into the acetate to create a distinct color. From afar, it just looks like an interesting color pattern, but up close you can see the knit in the materials and detail in the feathers.

Francis Klein continues to remain a family business with the addition of their two daughters to the team. Betty and Dixie are working to continue to expand this luxury brand to all corners of the world. You can find them in Europe, Asia, the U.S. and in 2003. They opened their newest flagship store and showroom in the Saint Germain des Pres district in Paris. Francis Klein is influenced by French fashion, but also the unique person that you are. Their attention to detail and originality create “make-up for the eyes” by drawing attention to your face, while complimenting your natural features. You’ll see a lot of feminine and cat-eye shaped frames, but Francis Klein also offers masculine shapes and sunglasses.
