Eclectic Eye works diligently to maintain our collection of the most unique and, well, eclectic eyewear in Memphis. We do that by bringing in fresh and innovative lines; however, every now and then, we bring in something that might be familiar to our customers. From the minds of Oliver Peoples and Garrett Leight, we are delighted to introduce Mr. Leight…designed in California with love, made in Japan with care.
Larry Leight is a California native who began his career as an optician and sought a journey that would allow him to express his creativity and give him the freedom he wanted professionally. After years of success as the Founder and Creative Director of Oliver Peoples, Larry Leight has collaborated with his son to breathe life into an eyewear collection that glimmers.
Designed in California
This father-son duo brings generational craftsmanship and innovation to their timeless designs that make you feel like you are strutting the streets of Old Hollywood or on the beach in Santa Barbara. Their website describes Mr. Leight as “the perfect union” of Larry’s decades-long history in eyewear and Garrett’s modern vision in his own eyewear brand, Garrett Leight California Optical. Together, they bring eyeglass wearers frames that tie in classical style with a design that far spans trend.
The recent collections have been inspired by those in the world of cinematography. The frames are inspired by a filmmaker’s ability to capture the depth and quirks of each character. “What they achieve through film, we achieve through eyewear,” explains Mr. Leight. The collection brings the glitz and glam of the red carpet, the free spirit of a jet-setter, and the casually cool vibe of hanging poolside. Welcome to Old Hollywood.
Handmade in Japan
Japan is home to the highest quality titanium and acetate, which is why Mr. Leight chose Japan to be the home base for handcrafting each frame. With artisanal craftsmanship, the latest technical engineering, and the finest materials, these frames are designed to last a lifetime. Mr. Leight works directly with craftsmen whom he has collaborated with as long as he has been designing and creating eyewear. With them, he has been able to keep tradition at the heart of the business while maintaining his innovative approach to the always-advancing world of optical and fashion.
Mr. Leight incorporates unique detailing that is consistent with each frame. Examples of this are titanium pieces breaking up the acetate temple, metal framing around the eyes and on the bridge, and filigree etched into titanium temples.
